Category 5 (Cat 5) wiring standard refers to a set of specifications for cabling that is commonly used in Ethernet networks. Cat 5 cables consist of four twisted pairs of copper wire, and they are capable of transmitting data at speeds of up to 100 megabits per second (Mbps).
